SD Industries continues to expand its in-house manufacturing capabilities with the addition of a Hyd-Mech M-20A Automatic Horizontal Pivot Mitering Band Saw at our Texas manufacturing facility in Conroe, Texas.
Designed for high-capacity metal cutting and production work, the M-20A gives SD Industries the ability to accurately cut large structural sections, bar stock, heavy tubing, and other metal material directly within our own manufacturing operation.
The machine adds an important cutting capability to SD Industries' growing production platform and works alongside our Bodor tube laser, Bodor flat laser, Ermaksan 350-ton press brake, Piranha iron worker, welding equipment, and other fabrication technologies.
With the M-20A, SD Industries can handle more material preparation in-house and support customers with cutting, fabrication, and production services from a single manufacturing partner.
Introducing the Hyd-Mech M-20A
The Hyd-Mech M-20A is an automatic horizontal pivot mitering band saw built for large-capacity production cutting.
The machine is designed to handle material up to:
20" round at 90°
20" high × 30" wide rectangular at 90°
20" round at 45°
20" × 19" rectangular at 45°
14" round at 30°
20" × 12" rectangular at 30°
The M-20A can automatically position its cutting head from 90° down to 30°, allowing SD Industries to produce straight cuts as well as angled cuts for fabrication and assembly.
This makes the machine particularly useful for structural steel, heavy tubing, bar stock, and fabricated components that require accurate lengths and mitered ends.
Automatic Cutting for Production Work
One of the major advantages of the M-20A is that it is designed for automatic production cutting, rather than requiring the operator to manually perform every individual cut.
The machine includes:
Automatic programmable mitering
Automatic multi-indexing
Hydraulic material clamping
Hydraulic positive down-feed
Automatic head positioning
The shuttle can automatically advance material by up to 33 inches per stroke, allowing long structural runs to be positioned and cut repeatedly with reduced manual intervention.
This is particularly valuable for projects with long cut lists and repeated components.
Large-Capacity Cutting
The M-20A provides SD Industries with a substantial cutting envelope for a wide range of structural and fabrication materials.
At 90°, the machine can process rectangular material up to:
20" H × 30" W
and round material up to:
20" diameter
At 45°, the capacity remains:
20" × 19" rectangular
and:
20" round
At 30°, the machine can process:
20" × 12" rectangular
and:
14" round.
This capacity gives SD Industries the flexibility to process large sections that would not be practical for smaller shop saws.
Automatic Miter Cutting From 90° to 30°
The M-20A is not limited to straight 90° cuts.
Its automatic programmable mitering system allows the cutting head to move to programmed angles between 90° and 30°.
This makes it useful for producing:
Angled structural members
Mitered frame components
Sloped supports
Architectural assemblies
Canopy components
Custom frames
Braced structures
Fabricated assemblies requiring angled cuts
Instead of cutting material straight and performing additional manual preparation, the machine can produce the required angle directly during the cutting process.
Accurate Cutting for Fabrication
The M-20A uses a heavy-duty cast-iron saw head and direct-drive blade system designed to maintain blade stability during cutting.
Hyd-Mech states that the machine uses a 10 HP VFD true direct-drive system with no belts or pulleys, while the heavy cast-iron head helps reduce vibration during cutting.
The machine also uses adjustable guide arms mounted on linear rails to support the blade across the material.
Together, these features help provide consistent cuts during long production runs.
For SD Industries, accurate sawing is important because cut components often move directly into:
Welding
Assembly
Laser processing
Forming
Structural fabrication
and
Installation.
Variable Blade Speed
The M-20A uses a variable-frequency-drive blade system with a published blade-speed range of approximately 50–350 SFM (15–107 m/min).
This allows the cutting process to be adjusted according to material and application.
Hyd-Mech lists the M-20A as suitable for cutting:
Mild steel
Structural steel
Aluminum
Stainless steel
Heavy tubing
Large solid bar
The variable-speed capability gives operators flexibility when selecting an appropriate cutting speed for different materials.
Hydraulic Clamping for Secure Cutting
The M-20A uses full-capacity, full-stroke hydraulic vises to secure material during cutting.
Secure clamping is especially important when processing larger or heavier sections.
Keeping the material properly positioned during cutting helps support:
Consistent cut locations
Cleaner cuts
Repeatability
Accurate mitering
Stable production
This becomes increasingly important when multiple identical components must be produced for the same project.
Automatic Multi-Indexing
Another important capability of the M-20A is its automatic multi-indexing system.
The shuttle can advance material by up to 33 inches per stroke, allowing the machine to continue positioning long material for repeated cuts.
For SD Industries, this can be especially useful when processing:
Long structural sections
Repeated tube components
Bar stock
Large fabrication packages
Production cut lists
Rather than manually repositioning material after every cut, the automatic indexing system can help streamline repetitive production.
Heavy-Duty Direct Drive
The M-20A uses a 10 HP direct-drive blade system with no belts or pulleys. Hyd-Mech describes this design as providing direct power to the blade while supporting long blade life and consistent cutting performance.
The heavy cast-iron saw head also provides rigidity and vibration control during cutting.
For heavy fabrication work, this combination is important when cutting large sections repeatedly over long production runs.
Flood Coolant & Clean Cutting
The M-20A includes a flood coolant system and wash-down hose.
Coolant helps manage heat during cutting and supports blade life and cutting performance.
The machine also includes features such as automatic chip removal, blade protection, and a replaceable blade brush to help maintain the cutting environment during production.
What Can SD Industries Cut With the M-20A?
The new band saw expands SD Industries' ability to process large and heavy metal material for a wide range of fabricated products.
Structural Steel
The M-20A is particularly useful for preparing structural steel sections to project-specific lengths and angles.
This can include components for:
Frames
Supports
Columns
Beams
Bracing
Structural assemblies
Miscellaneous structural components
Heavy Tubing
Large tubing can be cut accurately to length for structural and architectural fabrication.
This complements the Bodor M3 Tube Laser, which provides precision CNC cutting and profiling for tube components.
The M-20A can handle large sections that are better suited to heavy-duty sawing.
Large Solid Bar
Hyd-Mech lists large solid bar among the materials the M-20A is designed to cut.
This provides SD Industries with an additional method for preparing bar stock for machining, fabrication, assembly, and custom projects.
Angled Structural Components
The automatic mitering system allows SD Industries to produce angled ends for components that will later be welded or assembled into structures.
Custom Frames
Frames often require multiple members cut to specific lengths and angles.
The M-20A can support repeatable production of those members.
Canopies
Canopy structures can require numerous structural and tubular members with both straight and angled cuts.
The M-20A can prepare those components for welding and assembly.
Fencing & Gates
Large posts, frames, rails, supports, and other heavy components can be cut to project-specific dimensions.
Stair Systems
Structural and tubular members used in metal staircases can be prepared for subsequent fabrication and assembly.
Guardrails & Handrails
The machine can support larger tubular or structural components used in railing systems, supports, posts, frames, and custom assemblies.
Miscellaneous Metal Fabrication
The M-20A can support the preparation of many other metal components used throughout SD Industries' architectural and miscellaneous metal fabrication work.
The M-20A Works With Our Other Machines
The real value of the M-20A comes from how it fits into SD Industries' complete manufacturing workflow.
Bodor M3 Tube Laser
Used for precision CNC cutting and profiling of tube and pipe.
Bodor P4 Flat Laser
Used for precision cutting of flat sheet and plate.
Piranha P55 Iron Worker
