SD Industries has expanded its in-house manufacturing capabilities with the addition of a Bodor P4 Flat Laser Cutting Machine at our Texas manufacturing facility in Conroe, Texas.
The addition of the Bodor P4 gives SD Industries an advanced CNC flat laser cutting capability for processing sheet metal and plate components with speed, precision, repeatability, and flexibility.
The machine expands what our fabrication team can produce in-house and allows us to support a broader range of architectural metal, miscellaneous metal, signage, structural, and custom fabrication requirements.
Rather than sending flat-sheet cutting work to an outside supplier, SD Industries can now perform this critical manufacturing process directly within our own facility and continue the components through forming, welding, assembly, and other fabrication operations.
Introducing the Bodor P4 Flat Laser
The Bodor P4 is an advanced fiber laser cutting machine designed for high-speed processing of flat sheet and plate materials.
Bodor's published specifications list a 4,000 × 2,000 mm working area, providing SD Industries with the capacity to process large-format sheets while also accommodating multiple smaller components within a single sheet layout.
The P4 platform is designed for high-speed motion and efficient CNC production. Bodor publishes maximum linkage speeds of up to 200 m/min and acceleration of up to 4.0G, depending on configuration. The platform also has published positioning accuracy of approximately 0.05 mm and repositioning accuracy of approximately 0.03 mm. (bodor.com)
These capabilities make the Bodor P4 well suited for both custom fabrication and repeat production where accurate, consistent cutting is important.
What Does the Bodor P4 Do?
The primary function of the Bodor P4 is precision CNC laser cutting of flat metal sheets and plates.
Instead of relying on manual layout and conventional cutting methods for every individual component, digital fabrication information can be translated into CNC cutting paths and processed directly by the machine.
The P4 can be used to create:
Precision cut-to-size components
Complex profiles and contours
Internal openings
Holes and cutouts
Slots
Decorative patterns
Custom shapes
Brackets and plates
Connection components
Repetitive production parts
Project-specific fabrication components
This makes the machine especially valuable for projects where geometry, dimensional consistency, and repeatability matter.
Large 4,000 × 2,000 mm Cutting Area
One of the key capabilities of the Bodor P4 is its published 4,000 × 2,000 mm working area. (bodor.com)
This gives SD Industries the ability to process large-format sheets while also efficiently nesting multiple components onto a single sheet.
A larger cutting area can be particularly useful for architectural panels, cladding components, signage parts, large brackets, plates, covers, and other fabricated elements.
Depending on the material and project requirements, larger sheet processing can also reduce the need to split a component into multiple smaller pieces.
High-Speed CNC Laser Processing
The Bodor P4 is designed for high-speed automated cutting.
Bodor publishes a maximum linkage speed of up to 200 m/min and acceleration of up to 4.0G for the P4 platform. (bodor.com)
For SD Industries, this provides a strong production platform for both smaller custom jobs and larger quantities of repeated components.
High-speed CNC processing can reduce machine travel time and improve production flow, particularly when a project contains many individual components.
Precision and Repeatability
Precision is especially important when laser-cut components will later be formed, welded, assembled, or installed as part of a larger system.
The Bodor P4's published specifications include approximately 0.05 mm positioning accuracy and approximately 0.03 mm repositioning accuracy. (bodor.com)
For fabrication, consistent positioning can help produce repeatable components and support more predictable downstream assembly.
This is particularly useful when a project includes:
Multiple identical parts
Repeated mounting holes
Matching brackets
Interlocking components
Assembly plates
Large production quantities
Detailed architectural patterns
Complex Shapes Without Complex Manual Layout
One of the biggest advantages of laser cutting is the ability to manufacture complex shapes directly from digital information.
The Bodor P4 can support intricate profiles, curved outlines, internal cutouts, slots, openings, and project-specific geometries.
This is valuable for architectural and miscellaneous metal projects where conventional straight cutting would require additional manual layout and fabrication steps.
A digital component can be prepared for CNC production, cut on the Bodor P4, and then move into the next stage of fabrication.
Efficient Material Utilization
The Bodor P4 also supports efficient sheet utilization through digital nesting.
Multiple parts can be arranged on a sheet to make better use of available material while minimizing unnecessary scrap.
Bodor's P Series includes features focused on material utilization and remnant management, supporting more efficient use of sheet stock during production. (bodor.com)
For projects with many components, efficient nesting can be an important part of controlling material usage and production costs.
What Materials Can Be Cut?
The Bodor P4 platform is intended for laser cutting of compatible sheet and plate materials commonly used in metal fabrication.
Depending on the installed laser configuration, material type, thickness, and project requirements, applications can include materials such as:
Carbon Steel
Stainless Steel
Aluminum
Copper
Brass
Actual maximum thickness varies by material, laser power, cutting conditions, and machine configuration. For that reason, SD Industries evaluates the material and thickness requirements for each project before production.
What Can SD Industries Make With the Bodor P4?
The addition of the Bodor P4 expands our ability to produce a wide range of flat-cut metal components and finished fabricated products.
Guardrails & Handrails
The P4 can produce mounting plates, brackets, connection plates, decorative elements, custom profiles, and other sheet-metal components used in guardrail and handrail systems.
These components can then move into forming, welding, finishing, and assembly.
Bollards
The machine can cut bases, mounting plates, protective components, covers, brackets, and custom sheet-metal parts used in bollard assemblies.
Canopies
Canopy fabrication can require plates, brackets, connection components, fascia pieces, support elements, and custom architectural parts.
The P4 can accurately cut these components before they move into forming and welding.
Fencing
The Bodor P4 can produce custom panels, brackets, decorative cut patterns, mounting plates, reinforcement pieces, and other sheet-metal components for fencing systems.
Gates
Custom gate fabrication can include cut panels, brackets, hinges or hinge-related plates, decorative patterns, mounting components, and structural connection pieces.
